Final Thoughts...
After spending the last few days securing the most last-minute interview possible, as well as editing the final piece together, finding the perfect music for the documentary, and focusing on the production blog, it is safe to say I’m glad that Femme or Foe is finally finished.
Last night I spoke to Erin Mansell of the London Feminist Network (after endless months of chasing up following the Reclaim The Night March – the original date of our interview which was postponed) I finally got the female voice the documentary desperately needed. It finally seemed like Femme Or Foe was falling into place.
But then came the editing, which is a gruelling task, but it really helped me get to terms with the tone and the journey this documentary takes. I was able to use the tone of her pieces to find the perfect music for the second half of the documentary, to add to the rising feeling of power and confidence in the movement.
Adding Erin’s clips felt like adding the last pieces to the puzzle, and finally Femme or Foe was taking the shape of a documentary that would fit in amongst the 5 Live Investigates pieces.
With the finishing touches complete and the documentary ready for submission, it’s almost a sad feeling now that the work is all over.
But I am definitely proud of the finished product and can't wait for people to listen to it.
This documentary is important because I feel that asking the hard questions about these movements can help them grow and help them become more representative of us all, not just white, middle-class women or men. It was interesting to learn more about counter-feminist movements and why they exist, and get to talk to those with different outlooks on feminism to the mainstream thoughts. Femme or Foe is a thought-provoking piece, one that I hope you all enjoy.
